Eighteen schools took home trophies after competing in the Mississippi School for Mathematics and Science’s Mu Alpha Theta Math Tournament.
For over 20 years, the MSMS Chapter of Mu Alpha Theta has hosted this tournament to not only raise money to attend the Mu Alpha Theta State Convention in April but also give students across Mississippi the opportunity to participate in an engaging, competitive math tournament.
Kicking off the tournament at 9 a.m., students first competed in the written test event, where they were tested on a variety of math subjects, including: Algebra 1, Geometry, Algebra 2, Trigonometry/ Pre-Calculus and Calculus.
After concluding the written test, students competed in one of the following ciphering test categories: Algebra 1, Geometry, Algebra 2, Trigonometry/ Pre-Calculus and Calculus. During this test, participants had 2 minutes to submit their answer sheet to the nearest MSMS student to be graded.
After wrapping up the last hour of the tournament, where students split into teams to compete in the Potpourri Challenge or the Mini-Interschool Round, the winners were announced:
