Explore Campus

The Mississippi School for Mathematics and Science is housed on the campus of the Mississippi University for Women; however, MSMS enjoys its own academic buildings, residence halls, and performing arts center, all within the University’s infrastructure. In addition, MSMS students have access to the University’s cafeteria, recreation center, health center and library.

Hooper Academic Building

The central hub for MSMS is the Hooper Academic Building. The Mathematics, Science, English, and Foreign Language Departments are housed in Hooper. Additionally, the Office of Academic Affairs and the Counseling Center can be found of the first floor of Hooper. Students often enjoy spending time in between classes in Hooper Lobby or the Student Lounge, also located on the first floor. The second floor features several state-of-the-art laboratories, as all of our science classes are lab-based.

Shackleford Academic Building

Shackleford Academic Building, often referred to simply as “Shack,” is where the Social Science, Engineering, Computer Science, and Visual Arts Departments are housed. The building features a Computer Science Lab, an Engineering Shop, an Art Studio, and a Black Box Theater. Several performances, dances, and events are held in Shackleford Auditorium throughout the year.

Performing Arts Center

As its name implies, the Performing Arts Center (PAC) is home to all of MSMS’s performing arts classes. The MSMS Blue Notes, the school’s performance band, practices in the PAC. Additionally, all instrument studies, songwriting courses, and drama classes meet in the PAC.

Mary Wilson Home

The Mary Wilson Home is a historical building located at the front of the MSMS section of the Mississippi University for Women’s campus. The Office of the Executive Director as well as the Office for Technology are both housed in Mary Wilson.

Hogarth Student Union

The Hogarth Student Union is directly across the street from Hooper Academic Building and is a shared facility between the Mississippi University for Women and the Mississippi School for Mathematics and Science. It features student mailboxes and a post office, the MUW bookstore, a Subway Restaurant, and an ATM machine. There is also ample space for student groups to meet or for students to lounge between classes. The MSMS Office of Student Affairs is located on the first floor of Hogarth, near the MUW bookstore. Additionally, the MSMS Office of Advancement & Admissions is located on the second floor.

Hogarth Dining Center

Connected to Hogarth Student Union is Hogarth Dining Center. The Dining Center serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner Monday through Friday and brunch and dinner on Saturday and Sundays. The Dining Center features daily hot-food specials, a short-order grill, pizza, pasta, and a healthy salad bar.

Fant Library

Fant Memorial Library is the official university library for the Mississippi University for Women; however, MSMS students enjoy the same privileges as MUW students. Fant Library was recently renovated in 2017 and features a computer lab, interactive classrooms, several study rooms, and a Starbucks coffee shop.

Stark Recreation Center

MSMS students enjoy access to Stark Recreation Center, the Mississippi University for Women’s athletic facility. Stark features a gigantic indoor swimming pool, several basketball courts, racquetball courts, pool tables, ping pong tables, state of the art weight training and cardio equipment, as well as free weights and exercise mats. In addition, Stark offers group exercise classes.

Goen Hall & Frazer Hall

MSMS has two residential halls—Goen and Frazer. Female students live in Goen and male students live in Frazer. Both residence halls are set up suite style, meaning a private bathroom adjoins two rooms. The residence halls are pre-furnished with two twin beds, two dressers, desks, chairs, and closet space. Both halls are fully staffed with professional residential life staff who are available to our students 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Additionally, there are laundry rooms in each residential hall available for student use.

MUW Police Department

By virtue of sharing a campus with the Mississippi University for Women, MSMS enjoys the full protection of the MUW Police Department. Housed in the heart of campus, directly across from Hogarth Student Union, the MUW Police Department actively patrols the campus and serves as first responders to any activity we may have on campus. Our leadership team and residential life staff work closely with MUW Police to ensure our students’ safety and security at all times

Health Center

The Health Center is open to MSMS and MUW students Monday through Friday. A registered nurse practitioner serves as the treating physician and is able to offer preventive care, write prescriptions, and refer patients to an off-campus physician as needed. Routine visits to the Health Center are free, except for lab tests and associated supplies, which will be billed to parents per their medical insurance benefits. MSMS staff will make every attempt to contact the parent if a doctor’s appointment is needed and/or when a prescription is given. For more information on the policies regarding health services, please refer to the Student Handbook.
