Application Process and Requirements

The MSMS admissions application opens September 19, 2023, and the deadline for submission is February 1, 2024, at 11:59pm. The following application components are required for admissions consideration, and must be submitted through the PowerSchool Enrollment online platform:

  • Proof of Residency – Upload the Declaration of Legal Residence and two documents that verify your Mississippi residency. A fillable PDF form for the Declaration of Legal Residence will be available for download in the PowerSchool application.
  • Activities & Accomplishments – Provide a comprehensive list of your academic and extracurricular involvement and notable accomplishments during and since middle school. A fillable PDF form for providing this information will be available for download in the PowerSchool application.
  • Personal Narrative – Explain your interest in STEM why you believe you are a good fit for MSMS (500-750 words). A fillable PDF form for providing this information will be available for download in the PowerSchool application.
  • Student Essays – Respond to two (2) essay prompts. You will be given four topics from which to choose (500-750 words each). A fillable PDF form for providing this information will be available for download in the PowerSchool application.
  • ACT Scores – Upload a copy of your official ACT scores. The document must show your name, test date, composite score, and subject scores in English, Reading, Science, and Math. MSMS does not require the Writing test. For information about ACT dates, visit https://www.act.org/content/act/en.html.  
  • 10th Grade Fall Semester (S1) Grade Report – Upload a copy of your final grades in all courses taken during your first semester of 10th grade. The document must include your full name, school name, school term, course names, and final grade earned.
  • Math Teacher Recommendation – Provide the full name and email address of a teacher who taught you math in 8th, 9th, or 10th grade. Your teacher will receive an email instructing them to complete the Math Teacher Recommendation form online.
  • Science Teacher Recommendation – Provide the full name and email address of a teacher who taught you science in 8th, 9th, or 10th grade. Your teacher will receive an email instructing them to complete the Science Teacher Recommendation form online.
  • General Recommendation – Provide the full name and email address of any unrelated adult who has had direct, significant, and meaningful, interaction with you within the last 2 years, such as: a teacher of any subject, scout leader, coach, pastor, job supervisor, community service supervisor, club advisor, student government advisor, performance arts director, or school principal. Teachers who submit this form must have taught you during 8th, 9th, or 10th grade.
  • Counselor Information & Academic Records – Provide the full name and email address of your current school counselor so that he/she may release information to MSMS about your enrollment and upload your academic transcripts and spring semester (S2) class schedule. To ensure that we receive each applicant’s most up-to-date transcript and confirmed class schedule for spring semester (S2), school counselors will not be able to submit these documents prior to January 1, 2023. If your application is submitted anytime before January 1, your counselor will not be notified or instructed to submit them until January 1, 2023 (he/she will receive an email that day). If you submit your application on or after January 1, your counselor will be notified via email the following day.

 

HOMESCHOOL STUDENTS – If you are homeschooled by a parent/guardian, you do not have to submit the math or science teacher recommendations. Instead, homeschool applicants must submit two (2) General Recommendations along with the following:

  • Proof of Residency
  • Activities & Accomplishments
  • Personal Narrative
  • Student Essays
  • ACT Scores
  • Homeschool Transcript & Curriculum Scope (A fillable PDF form for the Declaration of Legal Residence will be available for download in the PowerSchool application.)

Important Application Submission Details

The MSMS Admissions Application can be accessed on the PowerSchool Enrollment online platform. Parents/Guardians who already have a PowerSchool Enrollment account can use the same username and password to sign in. If you do not have a PowerSchool Enrollment account, you must create an account when prompted.
