The MSMS chess team–seniors Braeden Foldenauer, and Andy Zhao, and juniors Spencer Bolhuis, William Johnson, Gary Nguyen, and Daniel Smothers–traveled to Starkville Saturday to compete in the 2017 Mississippi Scholastic Chess Association state team tournament. Teams from all areas of the state were there, but as the tournament entered the fifth and final round, three teams, DeSoto County, Franklin County, and MSMS, were engaged in a close and intense struggle to bring home the championship trophy. That trophy is now sitting in the lobby of Hooper. Congratulations to these students for a gutsy performance, a performance worthy of champions.
