EMMA RICHARDSON NAMED LITERARY ADVISOR OF THE YEAR FINALIST BY THE MISSISSIPPI SCHOLASTIC PRESS ASSOCIATION

The Mississippi School for Mathematics would like to congratulate Mrs. Emma Richardson on the incredible honor of being named a finalist for the Mississippi Scholastic Press Association’s Literary Magazine Adviser of the Year award. While this recognition is surely high praise, it does not come as a surprise to the MSMS community.

Mrs. Richardson has been a remarkable presence in the English Department at MSMS for nearly thirty years and is the reason MSMS is known statewide for creative writing prowess and an award-winning literary magazine, Southern Voices

Since she arrived at MSMS in 1987, Mrs. Richardson has overseen the creation, planning, development, and publication of an annual literary magazine. Her diligence, command of the English language, and insistence on excellence are just part of what makes Mrs. Richardson an incredible literary magazine adviser. Students appreciate Mrs. Richardson’s emphasis on writing to develop their individual art and craft rather than a focus on publication. This holistic approach is part of the reason MSMS students love the creative writing process as much as they do seeing their names in print.

The winners of the Literary Magazine Advisor of the Year will be announced and honored on Monday, October 30 at the Mississippi Scholastic Press Association’s Fall Convention at the University of Southern Mississippi in Hattiesburg. Regardless of what the judges announce on Monday, Mrs. Richardson will always be revered as a literary juggernaut by the entire MSMS community.
